With 2014 officially behind us, I feel it only natural to reflect on the good and the bad of the previous year and as tradition has it, make those dreaded (or anticipated) resolutions. The only way to do that of course is to plan.
Because . . .
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
This past year, I finally achieved a long time goal. To get one of my books accepted for publication. When I received news Creative Prose Publishing was interested in my YA novel, I was at an annual SCBWI conference with fellow author friends. Let me tell you, there could not have been a better place to learn this than surrounded by friends who understood the struggle, the push-pull, love-hate life of a writer. This was my highlight of 2014.
But with the acceptance of Honorable Disgrace for publication, I now had the task of looking to what's next for me. So I asked myself, what is next? I thought it was to finish my current WIP. The one I'd put aside to write Honorable Disgrace. But I was hit with the inspiration for so many other stories all screaming to be heard. Pick me, write me, they all crowded and shouted in my head and if that wasn't enough, my husband added to the list by giving me a couple more ideas. I finally settled on a love story, set in current day Paris. There is intrigue, romance, reincarnation, danger, and downright evil.
It took me five years to get Honorable Disgrace to where it is now. I don't plan for it to take me that long for my next novel, so my resolution for this year is to get Love's Lock written, revised and submitted. Might be a tall order, but I can do it.
On a side note, my 13 year old son and I have resolved to run one race every month of the year. :-)
